Sunday Reader's Matins and Typica Service
July 26 | 8th Sunday of Matthew
A lesson in bringing Christ what is not enough.
In the Epistle, St. Paul tells us that in Christ we are no longer held at a distance as servants or strangers. Clothed with Christ in baptism, we are made children of God and heirs of His promise.
In the Gospel, a great crowd follows Christ into a deserted place. Evening comes. The people are hungry. The disciples see only scarcity: five loaves, two fish, and far too many mouths.
But Christ does not send them away.
He receives the little that is offered, blesses it, breaks it, and places it back into the disciples’ hands. In His hands, what could never have been enough becomes abundance, and all are fed.
We may arrive carrying little: little strength, little faith, little certainty. Yet Christ does not ask us to manufacture abundance. He asks us to bring what we have and place it in His hands.
All are welcome. Come and pray with us.
Epistle: Galatians 3:23–29; 4:1–5
No longer strangers or servants, but children and heirs in Christ.
Gospel: Matthew 14:14–22
Christ receives the little that is offered and feeds the multitude.
All are welcome!
