Before the Child lies in the manger, the whole story gathers itself together. Adam and Eve. Patriarchs and prophets. Kings, captives, exiles, and the faithful few.
All of them leaning forward toward a promise they would not live to see—and yet believed with their whole lives.
This Sunday, the Church remembers those who were well-pleasing to God from the beginning of time, from Adam to Joseph the Betrothed, from Daniel in the lions’ den to the Three Holy Youths standing unburnt in the fire. Their faith is not abstract. It is tested, costly, and radiant. Fire becomes a fountain. Lions become lambs. History itself bends toward mercy.
And then—quietly, impossibly—the promise is born.
Not in a palace, but a cave.
Not crowned, but swaddled.
Not received by rulers, but by animals, shepherds, and a wandering star.
Heaven sings. Earth makes room.
Readings & Remembrance
Luke 3:23–38 — A genealogy that tells the truth: God enters real history, real families, real brokenness.
The Holy Three Youths & Prophet Daniel — Faith that trusts God even when the fire is real and the lions are awake.
The Nativity Proclaimed — The Light shines in humility, and the world is changed forever.
This is why we say salvation is a miracle.
Not because it avoids suffering—but because it enters it, redeems it, and fills it with light.
All are welcome. Come and see.
