Before the Apostles preached, taught, or traveled the world, they waited.
Gathered together in prayer, they received the gift Christ had promised: the Holy Spirit. What began in an upper room became a fire that spread across languages, cultures, and nations. The fishermen became wise. The fearful became bold. The Gospel began its journey to the ends of the earth.
At Babel, humanity’s pride divided languages and scattered people. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit speaks through many languages and gathers people into unity. The miracle is not that everyone suddenly spoke the same language, but that everyone could hear the same Good News.
The Holy Spirit does not erase our differences. He transforms them into communion.
This Sunday’s Readings
Acts 2:1-11
The Holy Spirit descends upon the Apostles as tongues of fire, and people from every nation hear the mighty works of God proclaimed in their own language.
John 7:37-52; 8:12
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” Christ promises the living water of the Spirit and declares, “I am the Light of the world.”
As we celebrate Holy Pentecost, we remember that the Christian life is not powered by our own strength, knowledge, or effort. It is sustained by the presence of God Himself dwelling among His people.
Come and pray with us as we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the continuing work of God in His Church and in our lives.
All are welcome. Come and see.
