Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee
Lenten Triodion Begins — Sunday, February 1
This Sunday, the Church opens the Lenten Triodion, not with fasting or feats of strength, but with a quiet recalibration of the heart. Before effort comes orientation. Before struggle, truth.
Readings
Epistle — 2 Timothy 3:10–15
St. Paul reminds us that faith is learned through endurance, faithfulness, and being formed by the Scriptures from our earliest days. The path is not flashy—but it is steady, tested, and trustworthy.
Gospel — Luke 18:10–14
Two men pray. One stands tall on his record. The other cannot lift his eyes. Christ tells us which one goes home justified.
The Church begins this season by teaching us how to pray.
Not by proving ourselves.
Not by comparing ourselves.
But by telling the truth—and trusting God to meet us there.
Come and see.
All are welcome.
